On World Cancer Day, 4 February 2021, Prostate Cancer UK and Sky Media are collaborating to share the message “Men, we are with you”.
The charity has launched a national TV advertising campaign in partnership with Sky Media, which will share its message and support across Sky Sports channels, platforms and social media. This began in January, encompasses World Cancer Day and will continue until 18 February.
The campaign includes an advert with an introduction by Soccer Saturday presenter and Prostate Cancer UK ambassador Jeff Stelling, as well as three short documentary-style pieces that feature real-life stories of people affected by the cancer.
By doing this, Prostate Cancer UK aims to show the impact of the disease, which reportedly kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.
As well as urging men and their loved ones to join the charity, it’s hoped the campaign will highlight the implications of the pandemic on cancer, encourage people to ‘act in solidarity’, be aware of their own health and raise funds.
Alison Day, Director of Communications at Prostate Cancer UK, said:“In 2021 we will tell men across the UK we are here for them. We want to celebrate men in all their glory, because tragically over 11,500 men a year die from prostate cancer and thousands of men, and their families, lives are changed forever. We believe this injustice has gone on for too long.
“We want to see a world where men’s lives are not limited by prostate cancer and we know men and their loved ones feel the same. Together we can stop men dying, and the inspiring and thought-provoking stories of our supporters will really resonate with the Sky audience, inspiring them to take action.”
One in eight men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime – and it’s believed to be one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.
The campaign is also attempting to reach the most at-risk demographics, which include men aged over 50, black men and those with a family history of the disease.
